on insomnia

I battle with insomnia; I have all my life. Usually, through a mixture of sheer exhaustion and better living through chemistry, I win and find myself asleep on this, the quiet side of midnight. I've read all my regular internet haunts. I've i-podded (is that now a verb?) all my up to date podcasts, listened to calming new age music, calming classical music, and finally said "fuck it", and got up and put in Rage Against The Machine Live at Grand Olympic Stadium. If you're going to be awake - be awake!

So Zach sings about bullets in my head and bulls on parade and still I surf the net. I find a sweet little blog about Absinthe, which I've always wanted to try, and now I realize I can. In my insomniac brain, the first thought is "will it help me sleep?" I read Obama's Education plan. He's going to provide high quality early childhood education to children from infancy through age 5. I realize you've gotta have hope, but good luck with that Barack. I'm with you, man, but it's going to take a LOT of time before the field is ready for that. Good plan, as far as it goes. How far does it go? Can't tell from what he wrote.

I've got plum wine - that's like absinthe. Sort of. My sister-in-law gave it to me for Christmas, a holiday neither one of us believe in. Weird. Good wine.
