I'm Calling It

Retroactive War Crime Protection Proposed by Pete Yost, published Thursday, August 10, 2006 by the Associated Press.

"The Bush administration drafted amendments to the War Crimes Act that would retroactively protect policymakers from possible criminal charges for authorizing any humiliating and degrading treatment of detainees, according to lawyers who have seen the proposal."

In other words - since the Supreme Court took away the Bushies' ball, and said they couldn't try Guantanamo detainees in military tribunals, they've decided that they better retroactively cover their asses and make sure they can't get in trouble for something they already did. Intimidation - such as threatening prisoners with vicious dogs, humiliation - such as being made to pose naked with a bag over your head while a redneck cretin with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth points at your genitals, or "water-boarding" - trust me, it has nothing to do with surfing - won't "count" anymore.

Because Dubya called it.

Remember? When you were a kid? "Nuh-uh - it doesn't count. I called it." "I didn't hear you call it." "I don't care - I called no givebacks, so no givebacks."

The time has come for all of us to stand up, and insist that we have an actual, accountable adult in the White House who will uphold the laws of the land and the Constitution of the United States. Without whining. No givebacks, no retroactive laws.

There. It's time.

I called it.
