Hurricane Karma

Originally published 9/6/2005

Back in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, First Mama Barbara Bush gave us a taste of how she thinks (and apparently how she raised her children.) Of Gulf Coast residents who were forced to seek shelter in Texas (of all places), she said: "What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality," she said during a radio interview with the American Public Media program "Marketplace." "And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them." Apparently, the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina was an opportunity, not an obstacle! Now these people, these Americans, these neighbors of ours, have the opportunity to leave behind the poverty in which they lived, and move to Texas to live in a stadium, to be used as photo opportunities for the Bush family.

Heh. Now there's a Hurricane heading directly for Texas, and it's got Houston - home of Barbara Bush - in its sites. Don't worry, Barbara. Maybe you'll get the great, good opportunity to move to a stadium in a state far from home. The powers that be are calling this storm Hurricane Rita - but that's not her real name. Her real name is Karma, and she's a bitch.
